Jolly Rancher products recalled by FSS

Â鶹¸ßÇå and Bute Council, on behalf of Food Standards Scotland (FSS), is making local shops aware that they may have received and are selling Jolly Rancher confectionery products manufactured by ‘The Hershey Company,’ in Canada, some of which contain mineral oil.

These products may be damaging to health, particularly for children, and these products were never intended for the UK market. These products are not legal to sell in the UK.

Products affected, and which must be removed from sale are:

  • Jolly Rancher Hard candy
  • Jolly Rancher ‘Misfits’ gummies
  • Jolly Rancher Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1
  • Jolly Ranchers Berry Gummies

The withdrawal refers to all pack sizes, all dates and all batches.

No other Hershey’s products are known to be affected.

These products when manufactured were intended for global markets but as they contain mineral oil, the company had not intended them to be sold in the UK. The use of mineral oil in food has not been authorised in accordance with assimilated Regulation 1333/2008 in GB or Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, as applicable in Northern Ireland.

The Hershey Company has stopped trading Hershey’s brand Jolly Rancher products in the UK, other than Sours, (which are compliant), ice pops and slushies. They do not supply any other Jolly Rancher products formulated for the UK market.

The Hershey Company has worked and continues to work collaboratively with the FSA (who have represented UK interests in discussions). However, despite the proactive action to remove unauthorised and unsafe products from UK markets in 2024, and their subsequent decision not to supply the UK market going forward, other businesses continue to import The Hershey Company’s products for the UK market.
